About Fusion Unltd. (FUP):
Fusion Unltd. (FUP) hails from the streets of Baltimore, Maryland. At the age of 13, Fusion began collecting records and DJing, leading him to produce a number of local Baltimore hip-hop acts. Traveling back and forth to New York City for record conventions provided Fusion with the opportunity to build relationships with those producers that inspired him, namely The Large Professor, The Beat Minerz, The Beatnuts, and DJ Premier.
Fusion built off of his relationships with the producers in New York and was able to spend time in New York with V.I.C. of The Beatnuts and The Ghetto Pros. The two collaborated on beats and Fusion began to learn how the production business is run. In 1996, Fusion and Skillz were introduced by a mutual friend. This introduction led to a working relationship that runs true and fast today.
Fusion’s talent for making beats was apparent to Skillz, who grabbed two beats to use for one of the most talked about and highest selling independent single of 1998, “Ghostwriter” and “1,2 Theory” (Rawkus). Fusion made his proverbial “big break” onto the hip-hop scene as a producer with an ear for making aggressive, in-your-face beats. Following the release of “Ghostwriter”, Fusion began touring with Skillz as his DJ. While touring with Skillz, Fusion produced various independent releases for Truth E No La, El Da Sensi, and Jowell Ortiz.
His DJ work began appearing on various releases for Kool G Rap and Tiye Phoenix. Aside from that, he has also done production work with The Ghetto Pros. Through Fusion’s touring, he has DJ’d for a number of talented artists, such as Musiq Soulchild, Talib Kweli, The Roots, and Jean Grae. In 2002, Fusion produced “Show Luv” for Skillz album I Ain’t Mad No More (Rawkus). The song quickly became an underground hit, spreading Fusion’s name in the underground world.
In 2003, Fusion and Skillz toured with 50 Cent and G Unit. While on tour, Fusion presented 50’s manager, Shy Money XL, with a CD of some of his beats. So apparent was his talent and hard edge, that G Unit immediately picked up a beat for their double platinum album Beg for Mercy, released in 2003/2004. Fusion Unltd. produced the track “Betta Ask Somebody”.
Not only due to his successful placement on the G Unit project, but to his all around style of beat making, Fusion is being requested to produce music for an array of different artists. These artists include Little Brother, Skillz, Pharoahe Monch, Joell Ortiz, Musiq, AAries, El Da Sensi, and Truth E No La. Fusion showing his skillz in mixing both the underground & mainstrem worlds together along with the r&b world..
Aside from his work with other artists, Fusion is working on his solo album on Grind Date/ABB Records entitled Coldfusion, which will feature artists, such as Little Brother, Big Tone (Slum Village), El Da Sensi, Saukrates, Guilty Simpson and Skillz, & many more spitting over his beats.
