WINTER 2005
As you’ve probably guessed from the rather obvious title, this single CD effort from Tekniks is stuffed full of four/four-related gubbins, ranging from the laid-back and progressive, right the way through to searing hard house stompers. Mostly construction kit based (with over 30 on offer), there’s plenty to be getting on with in one of the most varied collections that we’ve come across in this genre. Nestled between the construction kits themselves are some impressive drum and percussion hits (the type of stuff that slots together beautifully when all layered up), a few multi-sampled instruments, some rather swish electric pianos and organs, plus a few fairly decent bass sounds.
To be fair, though, it’s the kits that are the main attraction here, with some quality drumbeats on the whole, and plenty of decent melodic material that should appeal to a broad spectrum of house lovers. The variety of styles covered means that it’d be quite a good staple addition to a bedroom producer’s collection – perhaps one who’s searching to define their sound and needs a bit of inspiration to help them discover which direction they want to take.
