The world is not exactly suffering from a shortage of trance sample libraries at present and we must confess to experiencing just a slight sense of trepidation as we removed the wrapping from Trancematic. Was this yet another collection of uninspiring loops and beatbox samples? Would the material be largely unusable and destined to gather dust on the studio shelf? Well, no. On the contrary, it’s positively stuffed with well-produced bass lines, multi-sampled synths and drum sounds as good as anything you’ll hear on your average trance hit.

Everything here is firmly rooted in the target genre, giving the impression of a very well conceived product built from the ground up for budding trance music producers who need a helping hand, either to liven up an existing track or to kickstart a new one. Particularly useful in this respect are the 11 construction kits, which although derivative comprise a mixed .WAV (either 14 or 21 seconds long) conveniently broken down into riffs, loops, effects and individual drum hits. Each kit is tempo grouped at either 135, 138, 140, 145 or 150BPM and, in most cases, musical keys are usefully provided. Settings for Logic’s EXS24, Kontakt and Reason are also included.

We wouldn’t go quite as far as Tekniks does and declare this to be the “only” samples CD you need to create electrifying tracks. However, with a trance set as good as this you could, in theory (and with a splash of ingenuity plus some original ideas of your own, of course), produce excellent tracks in the trance genre.

SUMMARY:

An excellent sample CD set for beginners and experienced trance producers alike. Well played, well produced and well organised.

What is it?
A collection of 1100 trance samples featuring 11 construction kits, hundreds of drum loops, synths, pads and effects in EXS24/HALion/Kontakt/WAV formats.

Any good?
Surprisingly so, in fact! There’s a generous selection of sounds, all of an exceptionally high quality that would easily slot into a commercial release. With luscious and spacious pads, driving beats and tasty incidentals, this is a class collection. It’s not particularly forward thinking, and is a bit ‘trance by numbers’ in places, but what did you expect?

VERDICT:

Trance lovers should lap this up. It’s a fine collection that covers all bases well.
