"Anyone seeking audio loops these days doesn't have to look far. A quick search on the web will yield a plethora of companies offering expensive loop libraries in every conceivable genre of electronic music. Even corporate giants such as Sony are grabbing a slice of the market. Search for longer, though, and you'll eventually unearth smaller companies like Equinox Sounds, from Barcelona. With their own studio and a team of freelance producers, they're out to prove that small can be not only beautiful, but original as well.

Their latest offering, Future Chill, is a well-conceived collection of loops and phrases for use in chilled electronica tracks. The overall focus is on melody and, to that end, a selection of melody files are included. Although very uplifting and distinctly European in flavour, a more apt description might have been arpeggios and chord sequences rather than melodies. Nevertheless, we like them a lot and would certainly recommend them as ideal kickstarters for this kind of music.

Three further elements include Ambient Sequences (a collection of short pulsating synth textures and ambiences), Synth lines (111 widely varied lines and arpeggios, some of which can be used as bass lines) and Drum Loops (nine folders of artistically programmed drum loops at tempos ranging between 80 and 120BPM).

Presented in both ACID and REX2 formats, this is without doubt a high-quality library, well programmed and imaginatively produced, and it doesn't resort to gimmicks. Buy with confidence, because it's all good stuff and good value for money. Let's hear it for the little guys!" 9/10
