'Hachion Sound: Shamisen' brings you high-quality shamisen or samisen sounds. Both words mean 'three strings, a plucked three-stringed instrument. The sounds in this pack come in many varying articulations, for the ultimate authentic sound.
Its construction follows a model similar to that of a guitar or a banjo, with a neck and strings stretched across a resonating body and is played with a plectrum called a bachi. The sound of a shamisen is similar in some respects to that of the American banjo, in that the drum-like do, amplifies the sound of the strings. As in the clawhammer style of American banjo playing, the bachi is often used to strike both string and skin, creating a highly percussive sound.
The lowest string is purposefully laid lower at the nut of the instrument, so that it buzzes, creating a characteristic timbre known as sawari (somewhat reminiscent of the 'buzzing' of a sitar, which is called jivan).
The Construction of the shamisen varies in shape, depending on the genre in which it is used. This product uses the most traditional and common type called 'Tsugaru-Shamisen'.
The sound source is obtained by sampling the Japanese traditional musical instrument, with short sounds and loop materials, along with processed FX materials. Three patterns are recorded to respond to the different needs.
Expect to find short sound material that contains the whole scale of the koto, loop material that contains traditional phrases and FX processing material which contains FX sounds that match with modern day sounds.
The 'master' Shamisen player Asako Mochizuki gives an authentic sound, maximising the charm and grace of the instrument.
In addition to this, all sounds were recorded at a big name recording studio in Japan and recorded using two microphones (tube and capacitor) in high-quality recordings of 24-Bit/96kHz.
