Breakbeat

Breakbeat is a broad style of Electronic music which utilises breaks, often sampled from earlier recordings in Funk, Jazz, and R&B, for the main rhythm. Originating in the 1970s when turntablists started to use Funk breaks using irregular drum patterns in their production, the genre progressed as technology developed. In the 90s, Acid House artists started using Breakbeat samples to create Breakbeat Hardcore. The Hardcore scene then diverged into subgenres like Jungle and DnB.
