The Story of EDM Samples

The term "EDM" predates the genre itself, originally being used as a catch-all term for Electronic Dance Music, such as House, Trance, and Techno. Around 2011, EDM as we know it started to emerge, with artists like Martin Garrix, Avicii, and Swedish House Mafia pioneering a hard-edged style of dance music which was popular both on the radio and in festivals. In particular, the EDM sound captured the USA market, which previously had been hesitant to offer electronic music any kind of mainstream success.

Typical EDM Sounds

Producers have been creative with their use of EDM fills. Firstly, there's the impact snare sample, used as a fill every 8 or 16 bars. Many tracks also feature a short drum roll or rhythmic drum fill. We have hundreds of packs dedicated to offering the best EDM drum samples, precisely for creating a fill. Brass stab samples are frequently used as a fill element in EDM, as an alternative to a synth stab. When EDM sounds began to dominate, Progressive House emerged into a club and festival genre, with huge drops, tuned kick drums and massive saw leads.
