Electronica is a genre of EDM that is geared mainly towards listening and not just towards dancing and includes a wide variety of musical styles linked by a penchant for overtly Electronic production. It can be used as an umbrella term encompassing styles such as Techno, Trip Hop, Downtempo, and Ambient. In the UK especially it is associated with non-dance-oriented music, including relatively experimental styles of Downtempo Electronic Music. It can pretty much be used interchangeably with the term Intelligent Dance Music (IDM).
