Hip Hop originated in in the late 1970s in the United States. A key element in the beginning was the isolation of the percussion breaks of popular Funk songs, sometimes using two turntables to extend the breaks (that’s where the term breakdancing comes from). Turntablist techniques, such as scratching, beat mixing, beatmatching, and beat juggling eventually developed to manipulate the breaks. Our 70s-influenced Hip Hop sound packs concentrate on those innovative breaks and percussive beats which gave rise to the early Hip Hop era. Rap Vocals
Rap was manifested from the social conditions of the 1970s. This form of poetic and “verbal acrobatics” was derived from ancient African culture and oral tradition. This element removed the veil that isolated the wider culture from the social conditions of many under-served inner-city African American communities. The rapid-fire wordplay, spoke the truth of stories that weren’t being told and gave rise to a new urban narrative. Rappers may write, memorize, or improvise their lyrics and perform their works a capella or to a percussive beat. Jamaican toasting, a chanting vocal style, is also used over Hip Hop beats. Development of Hip Hop
The 1980s marked the diversification of Hip Hop, as the genre developed more complex styles. So, as much as Hip Hop was influenced by other genres like Funk, Jazz and the Blues, it has led to the development of new styles from different parts of the US and beyond. Prior to the 1980s, Hip Hop music was largely confined within the United States. However, during the 1980s, it began to spread to music scenes in dozens of countries, many of which mixed the Hip Hop sound with local styles to create new subgenres. 1990s Hip Hop
