The term Indie initially came about to describe any independently financed music as opposed to commercially financed music. It has since developed into being associated with a raw, stripped back style of music that is not over-processed like commercial Pop but instead uses acoustic instruments, predominantly guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. it can be used interchangeably with the term Alternative Rock. More recent developments include Electronic music within the Indie genre.
