Product Information
'Indian Pakhawaj Vol 03' is a sample pack dedicated to one of the oldest and most important percussion instruments in Indian classical and devotional music. The Pakhawaj is a barrel-shaped drum made of wood with two drumheads on either side, played with both hands to produce deep, rich, and resonant sounds.
Considered the ancestor of the Tabla, the Pakhawaj is used mainly in Dhrupad singing, devotional music, and temple traditions. Traditionally made from hollowed wood such as teak or neem, the left side produces bass sounds while the right side creates sharp rhythmic tones. The player sits cross-legged and places the instrument horizontally, using different hand strokes to create rhythmic patterns called bols - including Dha, Dhin, Ta, and Na.
The Pakhawaj holds a sacred and spiritual place in Indian culture, commonly used in bhajans and kirtans, temple music, classical dance accompaniment, and Dhrupad performances. Closely connected with Hindustani Classical Music, Dhrupad, and traditional devotional performances across India, this instrument produces deep bass resonance, powerful rhythmic texture, and a meditative and devotional atmosphere.
