Memphis Rap & Phonk

'Memphis Rap & Phonk' from Element One is a deep dive into the dark, hypnotic sound of the underground Memphis Rap and beat-making scene. Capturing the trunk-rattling low-end, hard-hitting drum patterns, and eerie melodics that defined the original Memphis sound and fuelled the modern Phonk and Drift movement, this collection delivers the sounds and textures that connect the original Memphis rap tapes to the modern Phonk productions dominating playlists worldwide.

Bass content spans broken and distorted 808s, clean and punchy pluck basslines, deep subs, wubs, and resonant squelchy basses. Hard-hitting, hypnotic drum loops are built around iconic 808 and 909 kick patterns with crisp snares, tight claps, and rolling drum machine percussion.

Dark atmospheric FX add tension, character, and movement with crackle textures, dub sirens, and impact hits, while haunting melodic and harmonic elements range from classic cowbell leads and simple melodic phrases to retro synth chords, lo-fi leads, ambient plucks, and dreamy synth pads. Tight, hard-hitting percussion provides the rhythmic complexity and drive to complete your beats.
