Deep House commonly appeared as a term in the early 1990s to describe a more melodic, stylish sound with influences from Soul, Jazz, and African beats. Many early tracks used sampled chords and beats. The Jazzy sound often came from the favoured use of electronic pianos. Today the term is characterised by deeper tones, heavy organ chords, and hypnotic synth sounds.
Deep House tracks generally have a tempo of between 100 and 125 BPM, and often have an acoustic feeling compared to other House genres. Soulful female vocals are most often used if vocals are used at all. There is a spacious use of percussion elements, muted basslines, soft keyboard sounds (pads), use of advanced chord structures, and ambient mixes. Deep house music rarely reaches a climax, instead, it lingers on as a comfortable, hypnotic and relaxing sound.
